I am not sure if you have a similar experience with social media but don’t you think it is taking up so much time and your life or what’s left of it, is less fulfilling than before you started all this madness.
Unless I’m completely off target here, you didn’t start going crazy over social media for frivolous reasons. Perhaps you are a blogger like me who is using social media to reach out to a wider audience. After all, social media in the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and the controversial recently re-designed Snapchat are the fastest ways to get your message or media to everyone. Oops..I forgot there’s also Google+. Well, there are a lot…(my point!)
This is a real life story. I easily spend up to an hour per day just going through social media and trying to reply to every retweet, new follower. Not that there’s a lot to speak of at this point but still, it took a while. On top of that, to show people I am active and alive means I have to keep posting my blogs on each of the platforms. To ensure the content does not come across as monotonous, I even rewrite headlines to differentiate.
All of that takes one hour if I am fast and not distracted by my baby, wife or the never ending emails that keep flowing in.
I started to look for a solution and though quite a few options are available, I want you to meetEdgar.
Nope, it is not a typo up there. I am actually talking about an software that can automate some of your social media “responsibilities” such as helping you to schedule your posts. Depending on how often you are on social media, this can mean one to two hours of time saved per day, 14 hours per week and 56 hours per month…
What will you do with an extra 56 hours? Spend more time with your family, rest and recharge, let your hair down during a real vacation instead of being glued to your mobile devices. You get the drift.
I like what MeetEdgar stands for. Simple and direct. No one’s telling you to ditch your social media, but if you can handle it with consistency and in LESS time, why wouldn’t you?
MeetEdgar is a great tool but like all good things, they don’t come cheap. At USD 49 a month, this is quite an investment. I believe once you have a plan for your business and a budget to go along, this would be an investment you should prioritise for because you can save a lot of time.
In running a business (online or otherwise), one of the reasons for people to fail is trying to do everything by themselves. Even if you are a solo entrepreneur working in your room or garage, you can’t and you shouldn’t try to do everything on your own manually. If there is a way to automate, make sure you exercise that option which will then free you to do the other important tasks that really need YOU.
Currently, MeetEdgar works with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN and support for Instagram is coming up next. So if Instagram is your key social media driver, this won’t be a useful product. In fact, in reviewing the features of MeetEdgar, I find this to be the most disappointing and a likely deal-breaker. Many bloggers are using more than just Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIN is great but I don’t see a lot of bloggers utilising that platform as it has always been seen as more serious and for the corporate folks.
25 accounts – That’s the maximum number of social media accounts you can manage with MeetEdgar. 25 is definitely a lot of accounts and if you need more than that, you are probably over-invested in social media. It’s important for sure but not to that extent.
Which brings us to the final question – Should I invest in MeetEdgar?
Given the price tag and limitation, some of you might have already concluded way up there. Yes, it is not cheap at USD 49 a month. For that price tag, I would expect support for more social media platforms than just Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN. This is the reason why I am not using their service but by no means is MeetEdgar a sloppy product. It has its merits and once it increases the support for other social media platforms, I am sure it would be easier to justify for the price tag.
An alternative to MeetEdgar is Hootsuite. It comes with more social media platforms and a great app for viewing all your social media engagement under one tablet. At USD 19 a month, their professional version allows up to 10 social profiles and unlimited scheduling of posts and messages.
