You started on the journey of learning about affiliate marketing and now you are wondering about the next step. The name Amazon kept ringing up. After all, how could it not? Amazon, as most know it, is one of the largest if not the largest affiliate program out there.
Every affiliate marketer has at least an Amazon affiliate link somewhere in his website.
But with 1-10% commission, is this the best affiliate program out there?
Amazon Affiliate Commission
In March 2017, Amazon rolled out their new commission structure. For newbies, this probably looks ok but veterans who have built their business focusing on certain niches are anticipating a drop in their income. Needless to say, this does not sit well with many who have dedicated time and effort to developing a certain niche. It also points to a stark reality – that commission structure can change again and affiliates like you and I have no control over it. Change is the only constant.
Why It Can Be Tough too with Amazon
This is a popular item on Amazon. It is an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller. It goes for $35.49. You earn 1% commission for every sale that goes through you. That works out to be $0.35 per sale. If your target is to make $100 per month, you have to convert 285 sales. While the popularity of this item is not in question, you have to convert 285 sales per month to earn $100.
Criteria for a Great Affiliate Program
- Niche is clearly defined
- Recurring subscription
First, most affiliate websites are targeted at niche content. Amazon is a large marketplace for almost everything under the sun. This means, as an Amazon affiliate, you can promote anything. The challenge is you won’t have a well defined niche if you are all over the place. Most niche websites tend to focus on a narrow band so as to become an authority in that field.
The second criteria: It is ideal to work with products on a recurring subscription (monthly) so that there is continuity income generated month after month as long as the buyer remains in the program. With solid well designed programs, consumers usually remain attached to them for a long time until a better product comes along. This is way better compared to promoting items that are simply a one-time payment. I am not saying you shouldn’t promote. I still do as long as I believe the product can help my subscribers.
Given the criteria, I like to recommend the best affiliate program for beginners. It is known as WEALTHY AFFILIATE
Wealthy Affiliate (WA) has one of the best direct affiliate programs. Their premium membership offers great value, and promoting it is just natural progression for most members as they themselves benefit from being premium members.
WA has a free starter membership. For Premium members, they pay $19 for first month and $49 / month thereafter. The commission of $23.50 per recurring month represents a commission rate of 48%. Few affiliate programs can match this. If your referral goes Premium on annual subscription, you receive $175 which is still above 48%.
WA has created an online earnings calculator where you can project your earnings. For example, over time if you can build 5 referrals per day and given 1 in 10 referrals decide to upgrade to Premium and stay around for 6 months, your monthly income would be around $1932.
I am sharing this to demonstrate the possibility with the WA Affiliate Program. With quality content and consistency, the earnings are realistic. Besides, if you are going to build your affiliate business, won’t it be more efficient to maximise rewards for every effort you put in? It just makes sense to me.
Few affiliate programs come close to what Wealthy Affiliate can offer. More importantly, it feels right to promote a product that is so well designed, clean and legit. For me, I can’t promote products that I don’t buy into.
