I am a strong advocate of working from home. There are just so many benefits you can derive from this arrangement, that I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want it.
Benefits of Working from Home
1. TOP of the list, you don’t have to deal with the daily commute
Would you like to save hours per day and energy for more meaningful work instead of being trapped in packed subways or lengthy drives? For me, this is the thing that seals my decision to start my own online business.
2. You don’t have to incur overheads for having an office
It is a big saving and can easily amount to 20-30K per year for even a collaborative workspace.
3. Flexibility of time
There is no question that working at home does not equate to working less. On the contrary, if you work from home, you tend to put in more hours. Despite that, you have the flexibility to manage your time and run different errands.
4. There is no need to apply for annual leave
There is no more stress over getting your leave approved by the management because you want to go for that much deserved vacation and some of your colleagues are also applying at the same time. You can call your own shot, as long as you deliver your work on time.
5. You are more focused
If we put aside the needs of babies and children, working from home provides you a more distraction-free experience. You don’t have to make small talk, or entertain your colleagues who want to share their latest gossips with you.
6. You can spend time with your family
With 8 hours at work plus the commuting time, most people spend a great chunk of their life away from the motivation for their hard work – Family. By creating a work from home arrangement, you can have the best of both worlds.
7. You will be more productive
Studies have shown a 13.5% increase in productivity when people work from home versus their office-based counterparts. According to a survey done in 2016, 91% of Americans feel they are more productive working from home than at an office.
8. You will be happier
This is the natural result of all the accumulative benefits mentioned above. A happier YOU is what everyone is striving for, isn’t it? So why not.
One more thing…
There is a bonus benefit for working from home. You don’t have to be bothered with formal wear. Yes, you can appear in your pyjamas. Just make sure to show up daily. For work I mean. 🙂
Jude has been working from home for over a year. In that period of time, he discovers that he sometimes works longer hours BUT is 50% more productive and also HAPPIER because he doesn’t have to apply leave just to run some errands.
