At some point, you will encounter online scams. The black sheep of the internet community, scams have been popping up rapidly and many people have fallen prey to them, losing their time, energy and money.
In this article, we look at some ways of identifying scams earlier on so that you stay safe while looking for ways to make money online.
Get $$$ Quick Scheme
At the very top of the list, there are the get rich quick schemes. These are programs that promise quick wealth with little effort on your part. Touting success stories of newbie members turning in profits of a few grand within a few days and living a dot-com lifestyle (READ: Always at the beach or resort, driving flashy cars) they try to appeal to the uninformed and make a quick buck out of them.
Sadly, many people fall for these ‘attractive offers’. If you see a promise of getting rich quick, be sure to avoid it at all costs.
“Affordable” Front End Offer
By creating a very “affordable” front end offer, these websites try to earn a quick buck before throwing the bomb on you, that you need to purchase a more expensive product to complement the first product. This is an upsell and it is very common. There is nothing negative with upsells but I just don’t like that it is not disclosed upfront. I don’t buy into such sales tactics. It’s a BIG turnoff.
To protect yourself from such situation, the simple way is to do a search for reviews from other people who had bought the product. Chances are, you will find users voicing out their grievances and anger. If that is so, be thankful you haven’t committed, drop the idea and move on.
The use of Commercial Actors
There are websites that use actors to market their products. Actors are used because the owners may prefer a more professional delivery. If you are on a website and there is no trace of the owner and everything is presented by an actor (voiceover), you need to pay extra attention and verify if this is a scam. For more often than not, these same actors are working with other websites in a similar industry (ex. affiliate marketing training courses). Where do these “actors” come from? It seems a good number of them comes from freelancing marketplaces like Fiverr.
The actors’ main role is to present the product in the most exciting way to attract more potential leads and buyers. They may not care whether the product is of quality. Thus, the onus is on you to find out if this is a legit product or a scam.
One of the things I do before plunging into a program is checking in with their support.
Most reputable websites leave a way to contact them. I do this for two reasons. The first is to test if they will respond and secondly, what they say. From these, I can get an idea of what to expect from this website if I buy the product from it.
Are they responsive or do they take days or forever to come back to me? I have encountered cases where they never replied even when I asked for a refund! The other thing you can find out is whether their support is outsourced or handled by the owner directly. As a business scales up, it is natural to outsource certain functions and customer support is usually one of them. However, I would be apprehensive if the replies are out of a cookie-cutter..aka copy and paste. There are websites out there where the front end content marketing is top notch and as mentioned above, they can do it with actors but the delivery and support just don’t make the cut. My advice is to be wary of such websites. It may be a good deal seemingly but once the transaction is done, you are very much on your own.
If you are keen to learn how to make money online scam-free, I have a recommendation that came from my research and personal experience. I am also invested in it and thus I know it delivers. It will help you achieve your financial goals with time and you don’t have to worry about being scammed.
How can you verify it? I would suggest you try the methods above.
- Are they promising quick or easy wealth?
- Is there a hidden (and potentially expensive) upsell?
- You can research reviews on them including mine below
